Hello, Carrie Rhoades here, today I am sharing one of the new Circled Greetings by Altenew, the Hugs die. I will be making 4 shaker cards with this die set. It was so fun to play with I could not make just one!
To create backgrounds for my cards I use the Poppy Garden stamp set by Altenew. I stamped it in a light pink ink onto a white card stock panel that is 4” x 4”.
For card one, I used the Hugs die to die cut the center of this stamped panel.
You can see that it die cuts an opening in the panel. This makes for the perfect cover for a shaker card! But before getting to work on my shaker card I added a sentiment to the panel with a darker pink ink that says “I have been thinking of you”, from the Poppy Garden stamp set.
I covered the back of this panel with a window sheet and lined the edges with foam adhesive strips. I put some pink sequins in the center and then covered it with a second window sheet. I then adhered this to a card base that is 4-¼’ x 8-½”, scored at 4-¼”.
For card two, I die cut the hugs die and a circle die that is just bigger than hugs die at the same time from pink card stock. This gave me a die cut element that was not set into a panel.
With this die cut I was able to make a shaker that went on top of my card. I simply die cut two window sheet circles using the same die that I used around the hugs die cut. I adhered the first to the back of the hugs die cut element. Then I lined the edge of this die cut with adhesive foam strips. Added in my pink sequins and attached the second window sheet circle.
I added this to my stamped background panel, which I previously stamped my sentiment, “You inspire me to be better” in black ink. Another of the sentiments from the Poppy Garden stamp set. Both of the sentiments in this set go great with the word hugs.
Once that was all dry I adhered it to another pink 4-¼” x 4-¼” pink card.
For the next two cards I used the negative or fall out pieces that the die creates.
First I die cut the Hugs die from a black card stock panel. Then I adhered that to a 4-¼” x 4-¼” card base. Here is where I pulled in the left over pieces from card one. I puzzle pieces them around the die cut. I love the look this creates.
I made the shaker window from a 4-¼” x 4-¼” pink panel. I used my circle die to cut out a circle, backed that with a window sheet and foam strips. I put the same pink sequins on top of the work hugs. Then I removed the backing from my adhesive foam strips and adhered this window to the card base, creating my third shaker card.
To dress up this card a bit, I stamped, watercolored and cut out two flower images from the Poppy Garden stamp set. I then glued them in two corners of the card to finish it off.
The final card uses the left over black pieces from this card to form the word hugs on a circle.
The circle I glued the black left over pieces onto is from the stamped panel that also makes up the window on this card.
The additional sentiment was stamped in clear pigment ink and embossed with white powder.
This die set is so much fun to play with and there are more possibilities with this die set then what you think at first glance.
