Altenew Metallic Watercolors

Altenew Metallic Watercolors

Posted by Carrie Rhoades on 21st May 2020

Hello there stamping friends. It’s Carrie Rhoades here, delighted to back on the Scrapbook Pal blog and YouTube channel. Today, I am featuring the Altenew Metallic Watercolors. I am sharing three ways you can use these shiney paints. I loved painting with them and the metallic shine I got on my cards, I know you will love them too. For each of my cards I am using the Poppy Garden stamp set. It’s a great set for watercoloring, also by Altenew.

Card One - Metallic Watercolors on black card stock.

Black card stock is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Metallic Watercoloring. It’s the best thing about them, a medium that you can use on black cardstock that looks amazing! It is stunning and oh so shiny! But you do want to be careful with how much water you use.

Traditional black card stock is not made to hold a lot of water. So, use a very light hand when it comes to water on black card stock.

For my sentiments, I used this Handwritten Hello die on each card, it is my new favorite die cut sentiment! I love that I can use the two layers together or seperate. But that top layer looks so amazing layered on the thicker shadow piece I am going to be using the two together for a while!

Card Two - Kraft Cardstock

LOOK, how amazing these watercolors look on a kraft card stock! I think it is such a stunning look. So, don’t hesitate to try out these high quality watercolor paints on different colors of card stock. You might surprise yourself with something really cool!

There is a dotted background on cards one and two, created with the Halftone stencil by Altenew. I love using it as a subtle accent around my focal images.

Card Three - don’t paint the flowers!

For the third card I decided to fit as many of the floral images from the Poppy Garden stamp set onto a piece of watercolor paper. And then watercolor everything but the flowers. I chose to do one color here, Aquamarine, but you could do multiple colors for another fun look.

I highly recommend swatching your colors out on the paper you want to use. Metallic watercolors are going to look very different on different papers.

To complete this background, I splattered it with water after all my painting was done to give it a bit of added interest. And check out how amazing the Handwritten Hello looks with metallic paper on top!

Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me share with you the fun I had watercoloring with the Altenew Metallic watercolors.
