Kissy Kissy Slider Cards

Posted by Carrie Rhoades on

Hello Crafters, Carrie Rhoades here, I am excited to be here on the Scrapbook Pal blog bringing you some fun interactive cards. I get to share with you the Slide on Over dies. If you are scared of interactive cards, a slider card might be an easy one for you to start with. There is minimal paper engineering involved. And I have to say, Lawn Fawn does an amazing job of with their dies, taking the hard work out of it for you.

For my slider cards I was inspired by the new Stud Puffin stamp set that Lawn Fawn released for Valentines day. It has two puffin images that when stamped are facing each other. I thought it would be cute to make one puffin slide over to the other and give a kiss! I knew there were several other sets that I could use to make other cards just like this, so stay tuned to the end for more Kissy Kissy Slider cards! Let’s take a look at the Kissy Kissy Stud Puffin Slider Card.

I used the longest, straight slider die from the Slide on Over die set to create the channel for the Puffin to slide on. And when you tilt the card, he slides over to give a smooch.

Soooo darn cute!!! The secret (not so secret) element to a slider card is a penny. That is what the sliding Puffin is attached to. I like to use a piece of fun foam to attach my sliding image to this penny. In the video making of this card you can see this in action, but I will also explain it here for you.

Here is the step by step breakdown for making this slider card.

1. Cut/die cut the panel you want to be the front of your slider. Cut/die cut a second panel to be the back of the slider. You need to incase the penny between two layers of the same color card stock. My outer panel measures 2-¼” x 5-¼”, after being die cut with the Simple Stitched Wavy Border. My backing panel is a rectangle I cut to 1-⅞” x 5-¼”, so that it would not show behind the waves.

2. Die cut the slider opening of your choice using the Slide on Over die set. You need to take care to leave enough room for the penny as well as a strip of foam tape above and below the penny. Foam tape is how you will attach the front and back panels together. SAVE the long strip that is cut out to make the sliding channel, we will be using this piece later.

3. Die cut a piece of fun foam with the same slider die. NOTE: you can use a piece of foam tape or square here, I find it sticks to the track more than I like it to and fun foam does not. Cut off a segment of the foam that will fit on the penny, slightly less than ½”. Now with a pair of scissors, cut a hair off one side of this foam piece. This will make it the perfect width to slide in the channel. Attach this to the penny with ⅛” double stick tape, as it is narrower than the piece of foam.

4. Put the penny in the slider channel so that the fun foam is facing the front of the panel. Flip the panel over so you are now working on the backside and the side of the penny showing does not shave fun foam on it. Create a box of foam tape around the penny, that leaves room for the penny to slide. You want to make a sturdy box, so do not skimp on the foam tape. Use an anti-static tool on the edges of the foam and in the sliding channel, allowing the penny to slide freely and smoothly. Now you are ready to put the back panel on. Remove the backing from the foam tape and lay the back panel on so that you can not see if from the front. But, if it does go on slightly crooked, just use scissors to trim off any of the back panel that might show from the front.

5. Working from the front of the slider panel, apply double stick tape or glue dots to the fun foam and attach your stamped image. Test it and see how it slides. Adding more anti-static powder can help it slide better. And it will slide better the more it is used.

6. Get out your second stamped image and lay it on the slider panel where you want it to go, without adhering it. Slide over the first image and line up the second image so they look like they are smooching. Remove the second image holding the first in place. Use a pencil to mark where the penny is, inside the track. This is the point at which we want that sliding image to stop. Now let’s create the stopper.

7. Take the strip we saved from step one, that was die cut from our front panel. We are going to fold one end over about ¾” and glue it to itself. Repeat this two more times, adding glue and folding it over, creating a piece that is 4 layers of card stock thick. If you make this any less thick they penny will be able to go over the stopper. Snip off any excess paper not used to create this stopper. Add glue to the back and insert this into the slider channel, so it just covers up the pencil line, that way you do not need to erase it.

8. Slide your image over and see how it now stops where you want it to. Now, adhere the second image, taking care to place it so you get the perfect kiss. I used glue to adhere mine right to the slider panel.

9. Finish embellishing the slider panel as you like and then adhere this to your card. Not to hard, right? If you do this along with the video you will be able to easily make a slider card!

The mountains on this card are from the Stitched Mountain Borders die set, also by Lawn Fawn. The finished size of this panel is 3-⅝” (at it’s highest peak) x 5-¼”. The sky is patterned paper from the Watercolor Wishes pack.

Now let’s take a look at a few more kissy kissy slider cards with other Lawn Fawn stamp sets.

This next card features the Whale You be Mine stamp and die set. I used the Ocean Wave Border dies to set the under the sea scene here. The foamy waves were created using a new product called Cosmic Shimmer Fluffy Stuff. It puffs up when you heat it!

Next up we have a pair of seals on the beach. This is the Sealed with a Kiss stamp and die set. I used the Stitched Simple Wavy Borders for the sand layer, which is my slider panel. And to the front of that I layered on some waves. The waves were created with the Ocean Wave Border die set.

Lastly, although I wanted to make more, is the Hedgehugs stamp and die set. For the grassy hills I used the Mushroom Border Die set. For this slider panel, my back panel is intentionally taller. It not only creates my slider box, but sets the scene as well. And you can see here that the Slide On Over die set is created to coordinate with other Lawn Fawn die sets. This curved sliding track works great with the curve of the hill. And specifically, the other die sets that coordinate with the Slide On Over die set are; Simple Stitched Hillside Borders and Stitched Hillside Borders

If you are totally in love with slider cards, as I now am, you will also want to check out the following slider die sets; Slide on Over SemiCircles, Slide on Over Circles, Coaster Critters Slide On Over and Slide on Over Waves. Think of all the cool sliders you could make with these die sets!

Be sure to check out the video, where I show you how to make the Kissy Kissy Puffin card on the ScrapbookPal YouTube channel! If you haven’t yet, feel free to subscribe so you can catch all of the other designers fabulous videos!

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to stop by. I love sharing my creations with you.

Happy Stamping,

Carrie Rhoades

PS - If you are wondering about the dies in my pictures, I like to cut a piece of magnet sheet and stick it to my original packaging to hold my dies. And then into a small storage pocket it goes with the coordinating stamp set.
