That Bites by Ally

Step 1: Tape a sheet of 6x6” watercolor paper to a glass mat or plastic clipboard so that it doesn’t warp or curl.

Step 2: Use Picket Fence brushes to apply Spectrum Noir glitter ink to the paper. Use Aquamarine for the top, Starry Sky for the middle, and Amethyst in the bottom.

Step 3: Let the ink dry or use a heat gun to dry.

Step 4: Use a spray bottle or fingers to splash drops of water. Allow the water to sit for a few seconds, then use a paper towel to blot the water and lift color.

Step 5: Use a flat watercolor brush and opaque white watercolor to create the rays of light.

Step 6: Once dry, remove the tape and trim the watercolor paper to 4.75” x 5”.

Step 7: On the lower left corner of the painted background, stamp seaweed from the Crafter’s Companion “Midnight Ocean” stamps. Overlap the images to make the seaweed taller and denser.

Step 8: Use alcohol-proof ink to stamp four fishes to alcohol marker paper, then use Copic markers to color the body of the fish. Start with darker shades on the edges, blending to the lighter shades toward the middle. For example, on one side of purple pink fish, use V09 closest to the stamped line, then blend to V17, V15, V12, V01, V00, and R00 toward the middle. Leave the middle as light as possible. Do the same on the opposite side. Color the fins but make the areas closest to the body dark and the tips lighter. To color the eyes, use R00 on the bottom of the eyes then blend upwards to B0000 and 0.

Step 9: Die cut the fish using the coordinating dies.

Step 10: Die cut the hello die from the Avery Elle “Sentiment” die set on to white card stock, then adhere this about 1” from the bottom of the background. Trim the excess since the sentiment will be wider than the background.

Step 11: Adhere the colored fish as shown, letting the bottom fish hang past the paper. Trim the excess.

Step 12: Mount the watercolor paper to 5” x 5.25” black cardstock then mount to the card base.
